Cornelia James already carried something most brands spend decades trying to build legacy. For generations, the brand had been associated with craftsmanship, elegance, and royal heritage. Their gloves weren’t simply fashion accessories; they represented history, artistry, and timeless luxury. But digitally, the experience felt disconnected from everything the brand stood for.
The existing website lacked the sophistication expected from a premium heritage label. Mobile browsing felt outdated, navigation created friction, and the emotional depth behind the brand’s story was almost invisible online. For modern luxury consumers, experience matters just as much as the product itself.
The challenge was not simply to redesign an ecommerce store.
The real objective was to translate decades of heritage into a modern luxury shopping experience — one that feels elegant, emotionally engaging, globally accessible, and capable of supporting long-term ecommerce growth.
That’s where Xoance stepped in.
We partnered with Cornelia James to rebuild their digital presence on Shopify, combining performance, storytelling, luxury UI/UX, and scalable commerce infrastructure into one seamless ecosystem.

Founded in 1946, Cornelia James is one of Britain’s most iconic luxury glove brands, internationally recognized for its craftsmanship, elegance, and royal heritage. Established by an Austrian designer who fled Nazi-occupied Vienna, the brand later became the official glovemaker to the British royal family.
Over the decades, Cornelia James built a reputation around timeless design, handmade craftsmanship, and refined luxury aesthetics. As ecommerce became increasingly central to luxury retail, the brand needed a digital experience capable of representing its prestige while supporting modern customer expectations across global markets.
Although Cornelia James had an exceptional legacy offline, the digital experience failed to reflect the same level of refinement and sophistication. The existing website lacked emotional depth, modern ecommerce performance, and premium storytelling capabilities. Instead of reinforcing the brand’s luxury positioning, the experience created distance between the customer and the heritage behind the products.
Navigation was also becoming increasingly difficult for users. Product discovery lacked clarity, important buying details were difficult to access, and mobile responsiveness was inconsistent across devices. For a luxury ecommerce brand, these small moments of friction significantly impact engagement and conversion behavior. At the same time, the business was beginning to attract growing international demand, but the infrastructure required for global ecommerce operations was still limited.
The absence of multi-currency functionality, localized shopping experiences, and region-aware commerce capabilities made it difficult for the brand to scale confidently into global markets.
Most importantly, the story itself was missing.
The founder’s journey, the craftsmanship behind the gloves, and the emotional legacy associated with the royal family were not being communicated effectively online. For luxury consumers, storytelling creates perceived value. Without it, even premium products can begin to feel transactional rather than aspirational.
We migrated Cornelia James to a scalable Shopify ecosystem designed for luxury ecommerce performance and long-term digital growth.
The new interface was designed around editorial-inspired layouts, elegant typography, premium visuals, and heritage storytelling.
We simplified product discovery, improved mobile responsiveness, and streamlined checkout flows to reduce friction across the customer journey.
Multi-currency support, CRM integrations, regional commerce functionality, and automation systems were implemented to support international growth.

Cornelia James approached Xoance at a stage where the brand’s heritage remained incredibly strong, but the digital experience was no longer aligned with modern luxury ecommerce expectations.
The business already had international recognition and a loyal customer base, but the website experience lacked the emotional sophistication and usability expected from a premium heritage label. Instead of creating aspiration, the existing experience created friction.
Customers struggled with navigation, mobile engagement remained inconsistent, and the brand story itself was not being communicated in a meaningful way. For a luxury brand with decades of craftsmanship behind it, this disconnect became increasingly important to solve.
The objective was not just performance improvement.
The objective was to create a digital experience that feels emotionally consistent with the elegance, refinement, and heritage Cornelia James represents offline.
Xoance rebuilt the entire ecommerce ecosystem on Shopify with a focus on luxury storytelling, mobile-first commerce, international scalability, and conversion-focused customer journeys.
The result was a modern luxury platform capable of preserving the brand’s identity while preparing it for long-term digital growth.
One of the biggest issues was the disconnect between the product experience and the website experience. Cornelia James represented craftsmanship, heritage, and exclusivity offline, but the website lacked the visual sophistication and emotional presence expected from a luxury label. For customers discovering the brand digitally for the first time, the experience failed to communicate the prestige behind the products. The Brand Story Was Almost Invisible
Customers do not simply purchase products — they connect with history, craftsmanship, identity, and aspiration. However, the previous ecommerce experience focused primarily on product listings without effectively communicating the founder’s story, the royal heritage, or the craftsmanship that made the brand unique. This created a missed opportunity to build emotional trust and deeper customer connection.
The user journey lacked clarity and intuitive structure. Customers struggled to browse collections efficiently, sizing guidance was difficult to access, and personalization journeys felt unnecessarily complicated. On mobile devices, performance issues became even more noticeable. Slow loading speeds, poor responsiveness, and inconsistent browsing experiences contributed to higher bounce rates and reduced engagement.
Although Cornelia James had growing international demand, the ecommerce setup was not optimized for global commerce operations. There was limited support for multi-currency purchasing, regional shopping experiences, and localized checkout behavior. This made international scaling more difficult while also creating friction for overseas customers.

We approached this project as a luxury ecommerce transformation rather than a standard Shopify migration. Every decision — from UX structure to storytelling flow — was designed around how premium customers interact with luxury brands online.
We rebuilt the ecommerce experience on Shopify with a strong focus on elegance, usability, and scalability.
The architecture was optimized for fast performance, responsive browsing, and future growth without compromising the brand’s visual identity. Rather than relying on generic ecommerce layouts, we created a more editorial-inspired shopping experience that feels curated and emotionally engaging.
The goal was to make the website feel less transactional and more immersive.

One of the most important transformations was integrating storytelling directly into the shopping experience.
We introduced visual narratives around the founder’s journey, the craftsmanship behind the gloves, and the brand’s royal heritage through carefully structured layouts, typography systems, imagery, and content positioning. This helped customers emotionally connect with the brand rather than simply browsing products.
For luxury ecommerce, that emotional connection becomes a major driver of perceived value and conversion behavior.

We restructured the customer journey to make browsing feel effortless.
Users could now explore products more intuitively through filters based on occasion, material, style, season, and personalization preferences. At the same time, the mobile experience was significantly optimized to improve responsiveness, loading speed, and overall usability.
Checkout flows were streamlined to reduce hesitation and make purchasing feel smoother across devices.

To support international scalability, we implemented Shopify features designed specifically for global commerce operations. This included multi-currency functionality, regional tax handling, CRM integrations, customer segmentation systems, and marketing automation capabilities.
The business could now create personalized customer journeys across regions while gaining stronger visibility into user behavior and campaign performance.

“Our new Shopify store is exactly what we envisioned — elegant, modern, and deeply connected to our heritage. Xoance understood our story, our customers, and the level of experience we wanted to create. The final result truly reflects who we are as a brand.”
The transformation of Cornelia James was not simply a platform migration. It was the digital revival of a heritage luxury brand.
By combining Shopify scalability with luxury-focused UI/UX, emotional storytelling, and global ecommerce infrastructure, Xoance helped the brand bridge the gap between timeless craftsmanship and modern digital commerce. Once the new ecosystem was launched, the impact became visible across both customer engagement and business performance.
Mobile traffic engagement increased significantly as the browsing experience became faster, cleaner, and more intuitive across devices. Bounce rates reduced as customers began spending more time exploring collections and engaging with the brand story.
Revenue performance improved through smoother customer journeys, stronger emotional positioning, and a more conversion-focused shopping experience.
Most importantly, Cornelia James now operates with a digital platform that feels consistent with the legacy the brand has built for decades. The ecommerce experience no longer simply sells products — it communicates heritage, craftsmanship, and luxury in every interaction.
